My boss received an email from his boss’ boss telling him that we went over our overtime limit in 2012 and we are not to do it in 2013. No more overtime. My boss has hired a part-timer (I am part-time but the newby is less part-time than me) to cover the busy times, sick days and vacations so that we won’t be getting overtime anymore.
Overtime was great if you got 1 or 2 hours each week. Too much and I would be exhausted and the government would take most of it in extra taxes. Overtime provided the income for the fun things in life. I hope this is not good-bye to fun.
Most of the staff at my place of employment, I am in the health care field, are part-time and I do not think there will be an opportunity to become full-time. Part-time employees are the way of the future. Although I do have partial benefits and a small pension match it is much less than what the full-timers receive. That saves the company money so they want to employ as many part-timers as possible. The bosses are all full-time.
January No Spend update
I had to spend some money today. $20.00 for gas. I got in my car to go to work this morning and it was on E. Not sure how that happened because I have not driven my car for 3 days….
A special message to my youngest son – Hey! you drove the car all weekend and left it on E when I had to go to work this morning. We will talk about this when you get home. And now back to the blog post…
Butter for $2.99 and a few other things from Shopper’s Drug Mart totalled $11.00 and that leaves me with $69.00 for the rest of the month.
i have been on salary (with no overtime) for as long as i can remember, but i sometimes wonder how much money i could make if i switched and became an hourly contractor. 50-60 hour weeks are not out of the ordinary in my field
I am paid by the hour but we also have a few contract workers who are paid an hourly fee and that fee is more per hour than I make because the company does not have to pay all of the taxes and fees that come with a standard employee (benefits, payroll taxes, pension contribution and workman’s compensation fees).
They contract workers are the first to have their hours cut when we are trimming expenses.
